For OSS and anything with a public repo, GitHub is the canonical artifact. Releases, README, and Topics matter. Trending cannot be booked. Assistants already cite repos.

A Show HN post is plain text, no scheduling, and no gallery. Most sink. The ones that connect can outdraw a #1 Product Hunt day and rank in Google for years.

If you can get an invite and the artifact is technically interesting, a Lobsters thread is high-signal. Most consumer products should not post.

Console (console.dev) picks tools worth an engineer’s time. Getting in is editorial, not a form you can brute-force. Huge intent, tiny volume.

Not cool. Still in search results and assistant corpora. Claim or create a project page if you ship downloadable or OSS-adjacent software.
How to use this shortlist
- Ship a README that installs in two minutes. That is the landing page.
- Do Show HN when the clone actually works, not when the landing page is pretty.
- Lobsters is invite-only and blunt. Ask for an invite from someone who already posts there — do not cold-email the mods a pitch.
- Console has no guaranteed date. Suggest and keep shipping. SourceForge is a listing, not a day.
