# Best platforms to launch an open-source project

The repo is the launch. Communities are the date.

GitHub, Show HN, Lobsters, Console, and SourceForge are for artifacts people can clone. This is not the commercial developer-tool hunt — skip hunter costumes unless there is a product on top.

## Advice
- Ship a README that installs in two minutes. That is the landing page.
- Do Show HN when the clone actually works, not when the landing page is pretty.
- Lobsters is invite-only and blunt. Ask for an invite from someone who already posts there — do not cold-email the mods a pitch.
- Console has no guaranteed date. Suggest and keep shipping. SourceForge is a listing, not a day.
