G2
Where B2B buyers go to reduce risk — and where AI looks for proof.
G2 is a review marketplace. IT buyers, operators, and increasingly AI systems use it to sanity-check software. A Product Hunt badge says “makers liked this on a Tuesday.” A G2 profile with real reviews says “teams used this and did not regret it.”
Getting those reviews is the work. G2 has anti-incentivization rules. You can ask customers; you cannot pay for stars. The profile also needs accurate categories, screenshots, and pricing signals or you will lose the comparison grid to competitors who filled theirs in.
Start collecting reviews as soon as you have ten happy customers. Do not wait for a “launch.” This is post-revenue infrastructure.
Reviews, not a hunt
Should you launch on G2?
Claim the profile when you have real customers. Empty stars are worse than no page.
G2 is how buyers reduce risk. It is not a launch board. Invite people who already used the product. Do not buy ratings, and do not recruit teammates to write the first five reviews as if they were users.
B2B software usually wants G2 in the same month as Capterra (same Digital Markets family — claim together, do not “launch” three times). Consumer products often need Trustpilot more than a hunter badge.
When: As soon as a handful of customers can tell the truth. Not on launch morning.
Launch here if
- B2B SaaS with existing customers
- Categories where buyers check review sites
- AI-visibility for “best X software” queries
Skip if
- Pre-revenue products with no users to review
- Consumer apps
- Founders hoping for a one-day spike
This page answers G2 only. For an ordered stack by stage, buyer, and goal, use the shortlist recommender or the four-week sequence.

Tips
- G2 is a terrible first launch and a great sixth month asset.
- Ten honest reviews beat a empty profile with a Product Hunt badge.
- Paid G2 boosts are optional; the organic profile is the foundation.
- Pair with Capterra only if you are already in a category that ranks there.
