Fifty small rooms, not one launch button.
Reddit is not a platform you “launch on.” It is a collection of communities with incompatible rules. The posts that work read as “I built this because X kept annoying me, here is what happened.” Link dumps get removed and accounts get banned.
r/SideProject is the friendly default for showing work. r/alphaandbetausers exists to recruit testers. r/startups and similar rooms reward stories with numbers. The highest-converting post is usually in the niche subreddit for the actual job to be done.
Results are spiky. Most posts do little. Occasionally one brings more signups in a weekend than a launch board does in a month. You cannot schedule that. You can only follow the rules, lead with the story, and engage in comments as a person.
A room, not a submit form
Should you launch on Reddit?
Launch here only if you can take the local rules and stay in the thread.
Reddit rewards presence more than a scheduled card. You can show up without a huge graph, but you still have to participate — a link dump fails. Audience: Depends entirely on the subreddit — from makers to highly specific professions.
Do not stack this with another comment-heavy launch on the same morning. Show HN, Reddit, X, and Product Hunt all want the same hours.
When: A different day from Product Hunt. After the one-liner has survived a smaller room.
Launch here if
- Niche products whose users already gather in a subreddit
- Founders who can tell a story with screenshots and numbers
- Recruiting messy early testers
Skip if
- Brands that cannot tolerate public criticism
- Accounts that only post when they launch
- Anything that looks like affiliate spam
This page answers Reddit only. For an ordered stack by stage, buyer, and goal, use the shortlist recommender or the four-week sequence.

How to submit
01
Pick the room, then read the rules
Every subreddit has a self-promotion policy. Violate it once and the account is burned for that community.
02
Post the problem, then the product
Lead with the itch. Put the link after the story. Include a screenshot or a short demo.
03
Use a personal account with history
Brand-new accounts posting links are filtered. Comment elsewhere for a while first.
04
Live in the comments
Reddit ranks engagement. Defensive replies and deleted criticism are worse than no post.
Tips
- Search your category plus “I built” before posting — learn the local format.
- Never buy upvotes. Reddit’s spam filters are not subtle.
- AI crawlers cite Reddit constantly. A good thread is an AI-visibility asset.
- Do not post the same copy to ten subreddits in an hour.
