X (Twitter)

An amplifier, not an audience you are given.

CommunitiesAlways onFounded 2006Reviewed September 2026

The launch thread is still the indie playbook on X: a short demo, why you built it, a clear link, and replies from people who already follow the work. The honest caveat is that X does not hand you distribution. A thread from a 40-follower account is a whisper.

Where X is unmatched is as glue. Your Uneed day, Show HN, and Product Hunt all get stronger when you can point your own people at them. It is also one of the fastest ways to put a product in front of journalists, operators, and other founders — if they already know your name.

Start posting weeks before launch. Ship in public. Then the thread is a climax rather than a cold start. Quote-posts from a few larger accounts will outperform any copy trick.

A room, not a submit form

Should you launch on X (Twitter)?

Launch here only if you can take the local rules and stay in the thread.

X (Twitter) rewards presence more than a scheduled card. A cold account will not invent a crowd here. Post only if you already belong, or pick a fairer board first. Audience: Whatever audience you have already built, plus their networks.

Do not stack this with another comment-heavy launch on the same morning. Show HN, Reddit, X, and Product Hunt all want the same hours.

When: A different day from Product Hunt. After the one-liner has survived a smaller room.

Launch here if

  • Founders who posted in public before launch week
  • Visual products with a 15-second demo
  • Coordinating every other launch channel

Skip if

  • Brand-new accounts with no history
  • Products that cannot be shown in a clip or two screenshots
  • Founders who will not reply for 12 hours

This page answers X (Twitter) only. For an ordered stack by stage, buyer, and goal, use the shortlist recommender or the four-week sequence.

When to show up

Always on — no hunter clock

List when the facts are true. Do not treat this as launch day. A quiet afternoon is the right time.

What money buys

Free vs paid

Listed cost

Free

Nofollow; distribution and AI-indexed public posts are the value. The thread dies in the feed; screenshots and bookmarks linger.

Ship kit

Do this before you press submit on X (Twitter).

  1. 01Post as a member, not a cold link dump
  2. 02One comment-heavy room per morning
  3. 03Stay in the thread until the questions stop
  4. 04Same one-liner you used on the last board

Stack with

Same launch month, different job — not a second hunter day.

Not the same morning

These rooms all want you in the comments. Pick one.

How to submit

  1. 01

    Build the account first

Weeks of shipping updates beat a perfect thread from silence.

  2. 02

    Lead with a demo

Video or GIF in the first post. Text-only launch threads underperform for software.

  3. 03

    Write a specific ask

Try it, roast the copy, or share with one person who has the problem. Not “please like and RT.”

  4. 04

    Reply to everyone

The algorithm still rewards conversation. Pin the thread. Post a same-day recap.
